Two Australian musical talents, TC Cassidy and Angus Gill, have come together in a harmonious celebration of bluegrass with their latest collaboration, Waiting on a Train, released on September 29.
“Bluegrass just does something to me,” TC said.
“I learned bluegrass banjo for a year so bluegrass and I have always been pretty tight.”
While TC Cassidy is no stranger to the country music scene, she is excited about exploring a new avenue. “I always wanted to release a bluegrass song as a single,” she said. “I’ve released a lot of traditional country, but we’re just so excited with how Waiting On A Train turned out.”
Waiting on a Train is the brainchild of Angus Gill and renowned songwriter Ronnie Bowman, known for co-writing hits like Chris Stapleton’s Nobody To Blame and LeAnn Womack’s The Healing Kind, as well as contributing to Kenny Chesney and Brooks & Dunn’s success. The magic of “Waiting on a Train” lies in its simplicity, forming a beautiful love story through the lyrics.
When it comes to the evolution of her music, TC Cassidy is eager to emphasise that this exploration of bluegrass is not an identity crisis.
Her musical journey has been influenced by a variety of styles, such as those of Patty Loveless and Emmylou Harris.
“I’m a bit of a mixed bag,” she said. “I grew up on traditional country like Merle and Willie, and I like to have little threads of everything I love. It wasn’t foreign for me to record this bluegrass song. This is me at my most comfortable, and I felt most at home singing. I could never do something that feels right.”
